Move your number from Spectrum Business to Tonet
Port your number out of Spectrum Business: the account number, the Transfer PIN for mobile lines, lifting a carrier freeze, and the steps in Tonet.
To move a Spectrum Business number to Tonet, you need your Spectrum account number, an authorized contact's name, and the address and ZIP code on your Spectrum statement. A Spectrum Mobile line also needs a Transfer PIN. Spectrum doesn't give you your Customer Service Record (CSR): your new provider gets it during the port. Fill in Manage › Phones › Port a Number in Tonet, and keep your Spectrum account active until the number has moved.
What you need from Spectrum
| You need | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Account number | Sign in at SpectrumBusiness.net, select Billing, then go to Statements. It's listed under the type of service you have. |
| An authorized contact's name | Someone listed as an authorized contact on your Spectrum account. Spectrum rejects a port when this name doesn't match its records exactly. |
| Address and ZIP code | Exactly as they appear on your Spectrum billing statement |
| Transfer PIN | Spectrum Mobile lines only. See Spectrum Mobile lines. |
| Your latest statement | It must show the numbers you're moving. You attach it in Tonet. |
Before you start
- You can't get your CSR from Spectrum. Spectrum says FCC rules stop it from giving CSRs to customers. Your new provider retrieves it during the port. Copy your details from your latest statement instead.
- Close any open work order first. Spectrum can't complete a port-out while a work order is open on your account. Wait for it to finish, or ask Spectrum to cancel it.
- Moving more than 20 numbers? Spectrum's Business Voice service terms say to tell Spectrum Business at least 5 business days before the port is requested.
- Spectrum won't discuss an open port-out with you. It sends the details straight to your new provider. Questions about your port go to Tonet.
Business Voice lines and Spectrum Mobile lines
| Business Voice line | Spectrum Mobile line | |
|---|---|---|
| Account number | Under Billing › Statements, by service type | The Spectrum Mobile account number at the top of your statement |
| PIN | Spectrum's port-out steps don't ask for one. Ask Spectrum if you're unsure. | A six-digit Transfer PIN, usable for 72 hours |
| Lock to turn off | Carrier freeze | Account Fraud Protection |
| Type in Tonet | Landline | Wireless or VoIP |
Lift a carrier freeze
A carrier freeze is an opt-in lock on Spectrum phone service. While it's on, Spectrum can't complete a transfer to a new carrier. It costs nothing to lift.
To lift it, use either:
- The carrier freeze form on SpectrumBusiness.net, to ask Spectrum in writing.
- A call to Spectrum at (833) 889-0571. Ask to remove the carrier freeze on each number you're moving.
The freeze comes off within 24 hours, and Spectrum emails you when it has. Submit your port after that.
Spectrum Mobile lines: get a Transfer PIN
First, turn off Account Fraud Protection if it's on. Spectrum says you must before you request a Transfer PIN. It's in your Spectrum account under More › Settings › Sign In & Security › Mobile Fraud Protection.
Then get the PIN in your Spectrum account:
- Select Services, then Mobile.
- Choose the line you're moving.
- Select Get Transfer PIN.
- Choose how to get a passcode, enter it, and select Continue.
- Select the mobile number to send the PIN to, then Send and Continue.
The PIN also shows on screen.
Good to know:
- The PIN is six digits and lasts 72 hours. Get it right before you submit your port in Tonet.
- A mobile contact number must be on your account before you can get a PIN.
- Can't get one online? Contact Spectrum.
Does Spectrum charge to port out?
Spectrum's port-out pages don't list a fee. Its Business Voice service terms say you keep paying for Spectrum service until the port is complete. If you're in a term agreement, ask Spectrum whether ending it early costs anything.
Keep your Spectrum account active until the port finishes
- Spectrum says the account must stay active while the port-out is open. If you disconnect it first, you may lose the number.
- Once the number works in Tonet, contact Spectrum to disconnect the service. Spectrum says to wait until you've confirmed the numbers work with your new provider.
Move the number to Tonet
Owners, managers and administrators can start a port.
- Lift any carrier freeze. For Spectrum Mobile lines, get a Transfer PIN.
- In Tonet, go to Manage › Phones and open the Port a Number tab.
- Fill in the form as shown below. Tonet fills in some fields from your Tonet account, so check each one against your Spectrum statement.
- Under Proof the numbers are yours, click Attach a file and add your latest Spectrum statement.
- Read the Authorization text. The authorized contact you named signs in the box, then types their name in Print your full name.
- Click Submit porting request.
| Field in Tonet | What to enter |
|---|---|
| First name, Last name | An authorized contact on your Spectrum account, exactly as Spectrum has them |
| Organization | The business name on your Spectrum statement. Tonet fills in your Tonet business name. |
| Street address, City, State, Zip code | The address on your Spectrum statement. Check the ZIP code too. |
| E-mail address | Where Tonet sends updates about this port |
| Residential or business | Business |
| Current service provider | Spectrum |
| Account number | Your Spectrum account number |
| Account PIN / passcode | Your Transfer PIN, for Spectrum Mobile lines. For Business Voice lines, leave it empty unless Spectrum gives you a PIN. |
| Telephone number and Type | Each number you're moving. Landline for a Business Voice number, Wireless or VoIP for a Spectrum Mobile line. |
Moving Business Voice numbers and Spectrum Mobile lines together? If the mobile lines have a different account number, put the Business Voice account number in Account number. Then list each mobile line with its account number and Transfer PIN under Additional information.
Put every Spectrum number you're moving in one request. Tonet handles one port request at a time. Once it's approved, click Port another number to start the next.
Not ready? Click Save draft and come back later.
After you submit
The Port a Number tab shows where your request is:
Ringing on Tonet. Calls to your number ring in Tonet: browser, apps and desk phones.
You: Call your number to check it rings in Tonet. Only then close anything left with your old carrier.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Submitted | Tonet has your request and checks it before filing it with the carrier. |
| In progress | Your request is being processed. Most ports complete in 7 to 10 business days. |
| More information needed | Read the message under Messages, type your answer in Your reply, attach a file if asked, and click Send reply. The request goes back to In progress. |
| Approved | The numbers appear under My Phone Numbers once the transfer completes. |
| Not approved | Read the Reason for rejection, fix it, and click Edit and resubmit. |
Tonet emails the address in E-mail address when it receives your request (with a copy of the letter you signed), when it needs something from you, and when the request is approved or not approved.
Your number keeps working with Spectrum until the switch. The date can't be guaranteed: Spectrum says timing depends on how many numbers you move and how complex the request is.
When the number appears under My Phone Numbers, choose where its calls go and who can use it. To text from it, register it for texting.
Why Spectrum ports get rejected
These are the reasons Spectrum gives:
| Reason | How to fix it |
|---|---|
| The authorized contact's name doesn't match | Name someone who is an authorized contact on your Spectrum account, exactly as Spectrum has them, and have them sign. Click Edit and resubmit. |
| The address or ZIP code doesn't match | Copy them from your Spectrum billing statement. |
| There's an open work order on the account | Wait for it to finish, or ask Spectrum to cancel it. Then resubmit. |
| A number isn't on the CSR or your statement | Check the number against your statement. If it's yours, reply under Messages. Spectrum resolves this with your new provider, not with you. |
| The number isn't active with Spectrum | Spectrum only ports active numbers. Contact Spectrum before you resubmit. |
| A carrier freeze is on | Lift it, wait for Spectrum's email, then resubmit. |
| A Spectrum Mobile PIN expired | Transfer PINs last 72 hours. Get a new one and send it to Tonet. |
To send a new PIN: if the request shows More information needed, send it under Messages. If it shows Not approved, click Edit and resubmit. Otherwise, email support@tonet.ai.
