Tonet phone app for iPhone and Android
Take business calls and texts on your cell with the Tonet app for iPhone and Android: your business number, team chat, voicemail and call history.
The Tonet app puts your business line on your iPhone or Android phone. Calls to your extension ring on your phone even when the app is closed or the phone is locked, and you call out from your business number, not your personal one.

The app is free. Calls and texts cost the same as in the dashboard. See Billing.
What the app does
| You can | In the app |
|---|---|
| Take calls, on the lock screen too | Calls ring like a normal phone call. Answer with the usual phone screen. |
| Call out from your business number | Dialpad tab. Pick which number callers see in Profile › Call From. |
| Transfer a call or merge calls | The transfer button on the call screen. With two calls, Conference Call. |
| Text customers from a business number | Home › messages, then the compose button › Text Message (SMS) |
| Chat with your team | Compose button › Team Message |
| Listen to voicemail | Home › call history › Voicemails |
| See missed calls | Home › call history › Missed |
| Find a teammate or a contact | Directory tab: Team, Phone (your phone's own contacts) and Contacts (your company's) |
| Set your status | Tap your picture at the top: Online, Busy or Offline |
Everything you do in the app shows in the dashboard too: texts, team chat and call history are the same on every device.
The four tabs
The tabs along the bottom have icons, no names:
| Icon | Tab | What's there |
|---|---|---|
| House | Home | Two tiles: messages, and call history. Each shows how many are new. |
| Keypad | Dialpad | Dial a number or an extension. During a call, the keys send tones for menus and PINs. |
| People | Directory | Your team, your phone's contacts and your company's contacts |
| Person | Profile | Your name, extension, Call From number, Permissions and Logout |
Icons at the top of the screen tell you when something is wrong: no internet, or the phone service isn't connected. They also show new voicemail and unread messages.
Open the app and sign in with the Email and Password you use for the dashboard, then tap Login.
The app doesn't have Sign in with Google. If you sign in to the dashboard with Google or an emailed code and have no password, tap Forgot password? in the app to set one, then sign in.
You stay signed in for a year. Profile › Logout signs you out and stops calls ringing on that phone.
Calls
Make a call: open Dialpad, type the number or extension, and tap the green button. Or tap the call button on a contact, a teammate or a call in your history.
Pick the number callers see: in Profile, tap Change next to Call From, "Number used for outgoing calls". You can pick any number you're allowed to use. See who can use a number.
On a call, the call screen has four buttons:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Transfer | Sends the call to a teammate or a number. Pick from Team or Contacts, or type a number. The call goes straight there. |
| Speaker | Turns the speaker on or off |
| Mute | Mutes your microphone |
| Hang up | Ends the call |
With two calls going, tap the conference icon at the top to open Conference Call, then tap Conference to put everyone together.
There's no hold button in the app. To put a call on hold, take it in the dashboard or the desktop app.
Texts and team chat
Open Home, then the messages tile. The top of the list filters All, 💬 Team and 📱 SMS, and the pills under it pick a number, starting with All Numbers.
Start a conversation: tap the compose button. Pick Team Message ("Chat with your team") or Text Message (SMS) ("Send SMS to a phone number"). For a text, type a number or a name in To:.
In a conversation:
- Swipe a message right to reply to it. Tap a quote to jump to the message.
- Long-press a message to react, reply, edit or delete it.
- Tap the picture button to send a photo from your library.
- Seen by… under a team message shows who read it, and you see when someone is typing.
Can't send texts? Your number has to be registered for texting first. The app says No texting number when your account has no number that can send, or "You can receive texts on this number, but it isn't verified for sending" in a conversation on such a number. An owner or manager registers it in the dashboard. See Texting registration.
What's only in the dashboard
The app is for calling, texting and chat. Set these up in the dashboard or the desktop app:
- Phone numbers, where calls go, menus, schedules and teams
- Users, roles and billing
- Recordings, transcripts and Tonet AI: summaries, Ask Tonet and Knowledge
- Meetings, and contacts beyond adding a comment
One line on up to three devices
Your line in the dashboard, the desktop app and the phone app rings on up to 3 devices at once. If a fourth one can't connect, the dashboard says the line is full: "Probably your phone app, or a computer that went to sleep." Sign out on a device you don't use, or close Tonet on it.
Desk phones have their own 3 places, so they don't count toward these.
