Move your number from T-Mobile to Tonet
Get a T-Mobile Temporary Port Out PIN, turn off Port Out Protection, and move your personal or business T-Mobile number to Tonet.
To move a T-Mobile number to Tonet, the Primary Account Holder turns off Port Out Protection on the line and makes a Temporary Port Out PIN. You also need your T-Mobile account number. Then fill in Manage › Phones › Port a Number in Tonet. Keep your T-Mobile service active until the number has moved.
What you need from T-Mobile
| You need | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Account number | On your T-Mobile account or your bill |
| Temporary Port Out PIN | T-Mobile's port-out PIN. See Get a T-Mobile Temporary Port Out PIN. |
| Account PIN or passcode | T-Mobile lists it with the other two as what to have ready. Keep it handy. |
| Account holder's name and address | Your latest T-Mobile bill. Copy them exactly as T-Mobile has them. |
| Your latest bill | It must show the numbers you're moving. You attach it in Tonet. |
Get a T-Mobile Temporary Port Out PIN
On a personal account, only the Primary Account Holder can make this PIN. If that's not you, ask them to make it.
In the T-Life app (postpaid). Use your phone on T-Mobile's network, with Wi-Fi off.
- Open T-Life and select Account.
- Select the gear icon at the top right.
- Select Permission & controls, then Transfer PIN.
- Select Create PIN. Write down the PIN that appears.
On T-Mobile.com (postpaid). Use your phone's browser on T-Mobile's network, not a computer. Select your name, then Profile › Permissions & controls › Transfer PIN, and select Create PIN.
Prepaid. Sign in at T-Mobile.com, choose My T-Mobile › My Profile, select Request Transfer PIN, then Get a Transfer PIN if asked.
Good to know:
- The PIN doesn't work while Port Out Protection is on. Turn it off first.
- Getting an error? T-Mobile says to use the phone that has the number, on its network, with Wi-Fi and any VPN (such as iCloud Private Relay) off.
- Need help with the PIN? Call T-Mobile at 1-800-937-8997.
- T-Mobile's help page doesn't say how long the PIN lasts. Make it right before you submit your port in Tonet.
Get a PIN for a T-Mobile for Business account
Business accounts make the PIN for each line in Account Hub:
- Sign in to Account Hub and go to Manage Accounts. Pick the account if you have more than one.
- On the Manage Lines tab, open the line's ⋯ menu and select Generate transfer PIN.
- Request and validate the one-time PIN, then select Generate.
The PIN appears with a transaction number. Can't do this? You may need more permissions from your Account Admin or Business Owner. T-Mobile for Business support: 1-800-375-1126.
| Personal account | Business account | |
|---|---|---|
| Who makes the PIN | The Primary Account Holder | An Account Hub user with permission |
| Where | T-Life, T-Mobile.com, or the prepaid site | Account Hub, one line at a time |
Government accounts must contact T-Mobile to start a transfer.
Turn off Port Out Protection
Port Out Protection blocks a line from moving to another carrier. It's set line by line, and on a postpaid account only the Primary Account Holder can remove it.
- T-Life: select Account › See Plans, then Manage add-ons. Choose the line, untick Port Out Protection, select Continue, then Agree & Submit.
- T-Mobile.com: select Account, pick the line under Lines and Devices, then Manage add-ons. Under Services, untick Port Out Protection, select Continue, then Agree & Submit.
- Prepaid: change it on prepaid.t-mobile.com under your line's plans and services. Any prepaid line user can also ask T-Mobile to remove it, after an extra security check.
Repeat for each line you're moving.
Does T-Mobile charge to port out?
T-Mobile's transfer page doesn't list a fee for moving a number away. Any early termination fee or balance in your contract is still yours to pay.
Keep your T-Mobile service active until the port finishes
Don't cancel your T-Mobile service before the number has moved. Your number keeps working with T-Mobile until the switch.

After you submit
The Port a Number tab shows where your request is:
Ringing on Tonet. Calls to your number ring in Tonet: browser, apps and desk phones.
You: Call your number to check it rings in Tonet. Only then close anything left with your old carrier.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Submitted | Tonet has your request and checks it before filing it with the carrier. |
| In progress | Your request is being processed. Most ports complete in 7 to 10 business days. |
| More information needed | Read the message under Messages, type your answer in Your reply, attach a file if asked, and click Send reply. The request goes back to In progress. |
| Approved | The numbers appear under My Phone Numbers once the transfer completes. |
| Not approved | Read the Reason for rejection, fix it, and click Edit and resubmit. |
Tonet emails the address in E-mail address when it receives your request (with a copy of the letter you signed), when it needs something from you, and when the request is approved or not approved.
Your number keeps working with T-Mobile until the switch. The date can't be guaranteed: T-Mobile decides when the port completes.
When the number appears under My Phone Numbers, choose where its calls go and who can use it.
