Grandstream GXP2170 setup: default password, IP, reset
Set up a Grandstream GXP2170 with Tonet: the default password (admin / admin), its IP address, your SIP details, STUN, and how to factory reset it.
The GXP2170 has a 4.3-inch color screen, 12 line keys and Bluetooth. Its web page signs in as admin / admin by default. You set it up from that web page, on a computer on the same network.
What you need
- The phone, connected to your router or network switch with a network cable. It takes power from the cable (PoE) or from a power adapter. The GXP2170 has no Wi-Fi.
- A computer on the same network.
- The person's SIP details: User Name, Password and Domain.
Find the GXP2170 IP address
Press the Up arrow key while the phone is idle. The screen shows the IP address. You can also go to Menu › Status › Network Status.
GXP2170 default password
The username is admin and the password is admin. On firmware 1.0.9.63 and later, the phone makes you set a new admin password the first time you sign in, and again after a factory reset. It can be up to 25 characters.
- On the computer, open a browser and go to
https://followed by the phone's IP address, likehttps://192.168.1.50. Firmware older than 1.0.11.98 useshttp://. - Sign in with admin and admin.
- Set a new admin password when asked, and write it down.
admin doesn't work? Someone changed the password. A factory reset sets it back.
Enter your Tonet line
- On the phone's web page, go to Accounts › Account 1 › General Settings.
- Fill in:
| Field | Enter |
|---|---|
| Account Active | Yes |
| Account Name | What the phone screen shows for this line, like the person's name |
| SIP Server | The whole Domain, including the colon and port, like pbx.example.com:5080 |
| SIP User ID | The User Name from SIP Information |
| SIP Authentication ID (older firmware: Authenticate ID) | The User Name from SIP Information |
| SIP Authentication Password (older firmware: Authenticate Password) | The Password from SIP Information |
| Name | The person's name |
- Click Save and Apply.
Turn on STUN
- Go to Settings › General Settings. In STUN Server, enter
stun.tonet.ai:3478. Click Save and Apply. - Go to Accounts › Account 1 › Network Settings. Set NAT Traversal to STUN. Click Save and Apply.
Check that it registered
- On the web page, Status › Account Status shows SIP Registration: Yes on green means registered, No on red means it isn't.
- On the phone, the line key shows a green handset when registered, and a red icon when not registered.
- On the phone, you can also go to Menu › Status › Account Status.
Not registered? See Register Failed.
Factory reset the GXP2170
A factory reset erases every setting on the phone, including your line, and brings back the default password.
From the web page: click Factory Reset at the top right of the page.
From the phone's menu: go to Menu › System and select Operations – Factory Reset. Press Yes to confirm.
With the keypad while it starts up (firmware 1.0.9.25 and later): restart the phone. When the screen shows "booting", press and hold 1 and 9. Enter the admin password if it asks, then press # to reset, or * to cancel.
Update the firmware
- Download the GXP2170 firmware from grandstream.com/support/firmware. The latest is 1.0.11.106, from January 2026.
- On the phone's web page, go to Maintenance › Upgrade and Provisioning.
- Next to Upgrade, pick the file and press Start. The phone upgrades on its own.
A phone on firmware 1.0.6.x or older has to step up first: 1.0.7.97, then 1.0.8.x, then 1.0.9.x. Read Grandstream's release notes before you upgrade an older phone.
